2. Audio Visual Library

Audio Visual Library of Universitas Gunadarma is a part of the library of Universitas Gunadarma. This library specifically collects non-book library resources, namely video tapes, audio tapes, and other non-book library resources. Besides collecting non-book library resources, basically this library will become the media center of Universitas Gunadarma later. The plan for that activity has been designed since the library was opened namely by producing the educational video media.
The main activity in the audio-visual library is providing the facilities of independent learning for lecturers and all students of Universitas Gunadarma. This independent learning activity is carried out using a 14-inch TV set with a video tape recorder and earphone, so that learning can be truly independent without disturbing other students. For example, students of English literature, if they want to learn
about British cultures independently, it will be accomplished by learning through video tapes about how Britain and its cultures are. With the power of Video and
Audio which are the characteristics of the video media itself, the independent
learning activities about British cultures are more real. So students are not difficult
to imagine how British cultures are; or students of architecture want to learn about Dutch colonial architectures in Indonesia, they can see a video showing how Dutch colonial architectural buildings in Jakarta and Bandung look like, so they can get clear pictures of the material learned. It also occurs for other courses and for all students in this campus.
Besides for the student independent learning activities, the audio-visual library room which is equipped by a projector and a big screen can also be used by lecturers who want to use video media as a necessary part of lectures in the classical teaching and learning process. By using certain learning strategies and the right media, the teaching and learning process using the audio-visual library room becomes more worthwhile. Besides the production of educational media in the form of videos, the audio-visual library is currently developing the production of individual learning materials in the form of “Computer Assisted Instruction” (CAI)/computer-assisted learning materials too. This computer-assisted learning materials are interactive, so that the learning process is expected to become more worthwhile and can help
students to increase their understanding about the lecture materials.
