A Brief description of Undergraduate Programme in English Literature (UPEL)

 

Undergraduate Programme in English Literature (UPEL) was established on April 3, 1996 based on Decree No: 92/DIKTI/I/ Kep/1996. Since its establishment, UPEL has received grade “A” accreditation from the National Accreditation Agency for Higher Education of The Republic of Indonesia, in the years 2005, 2010 and the latest, 2017 based on the Decree of the National Accreditation Agency for Higher Education (BAN PT) No.1923/SK/BAN-PT/Akred /S/VI/2017. UPEL is one of 30 study programmes offering English Literature Programme in Indonesia that has “A” accreditation at both the institutional and program level.

 

Course Information

 

The Undergraduate Programme in English Literature curriculum has a total weight of 144 credits.  Each school year consists of two semesters, namely even-numbered semester(s) in the beginning of the academic year (ATA) and odd-numbered semester(s) at the end of the academic year (PTA). Each semester consists of 16 weeks with 2 meetings used for the midterm and final semester exams. The maximum number of credits in one semester is 24 credits.

  • The conversion between Gunadarma University Credit System and ECTS:
    One(1) credit covers : 50 minutes of face to face activity in the classroom,
                                            60 minutes for assignment
                                            60 minutes for self-study
    Therefore 1 (one) credit equals to 1.389 ECTS.
  • For subject with practice in laboratory, 1 (one) credit equals to 1.579 ECTS
  • Four (4) credits of Undergraduate Thesis in semester 8 equals to 8.8 ECTS.

 

Selection Procedure

The admission requirements of Undergraduate Programme in Literature (UPEL) referred to the Indonesian National Standards of Higher Education Institution (SN-DIKTI). ). Applicant for UPEL is requiring a diploma of the High School education level or 12 years’ primary-secondary education level equivalent. As part of the selection process, applicant is requiring passing grades on entrance tests, which are conducted independently by the university with the involvement of UPEL. Applicants have to take and pass the entrance test conducted independently by a computer-based test includes Test of Academic Potential (TPA) with a minimum score of 450 from a scale 200-800 and English Proficiency Test result (EPT) with a minimum score of 450 (TOEFL paper), or 133 (TOEFL computer),or 39-40 (TOEFL iBT) or 4.0 IELTS equivalent. The final decision for the applicants’ acceptance decision is determined by UPEL under the authority of the university (Student Admission Centre).

 

Admission Documents

All the administrative procedures for enrolment for domestic students’ are managed at the university level by the admission centre. Documents that are required to be submitted by the students during the enrolment process are as follows:

  • Personal information (e.g.: name, email address, phone number. etc.)
  • Academic Transcript (A diploma of the High School education level or 12 years’ primary-secondary education level equivalent)
  • Health certificates proving one is free from narcotics/prohibited drugs issued by authorised health institutions
  • Formal Photo
